Dimasas call them Bairethai, Mizos, Hmars call them Zawngtha, Meiteis call them Yongchak, Kukis call them Zonglha, Zemes call them Nkampai, Karbis call them Themuke and so on. The Petai tree bears long, flat edible beans with bright green seeds the size and shape of plump almonds which have a rather peculiar smell characterised by some as being similar to natural gas. It apparently has many health benefits and is a powerful antioxidant.
