Today I'll be cutting a mitred bridle joint with hand tools as a part of my hand tool joinery practice. When I'm building furniture I often make the choice of speed over enjoyable. I really enjoy hand cutting joinery but I haven't taken the time to really learn and master the techniques required to do it efficiently. So I've decided to set aside some time for practice to improve my skill set. Once I have my hand skills improved to an acceptable standard I will have a greater ability to incorporate complex joinery into my future furniture builds. Machines aren't always the most efficient way to get things done and getting better and more efficient at hand tools will improve the overall quality and efficiency of my shop. This episode I'm cutting a mitred bridle joint. I like the clean appearance of a mitred joint from a face on perspective but having the additional strength of a long grain glue surface will reinforce the weaker than ideal joint. 00:00 Layout 01:08 Marking the waste 01:42 First saw Cuts 02:48 Cross cutting the mitres 03:20 Removing the waste 04:00 Fitting the joint 05:14 Final fitting 05:34 Shameless self promotion Titebond Glue https://amzn.to/3COAyHm Narex Chisels https://amzn.to/3euykU9
