Have you been suffering with chronic low back pain? Is it only on one side? There's a good chance you have what is called an SI (Sacro Iliac) Joint Dysfunction. This is when the SI joint (usually the left or the right) is no longer moving properly. Often times, it is associated with tightness and restriction in the piriformis muscle on the same side of the dysfunction. The SI (sacro iliac) joint, is a joint formed where the sacrum meets the left and right pelvis. Therefore we have 2 SI joints. The SI joint does not move like "regular" joint such as the shoulder. It can not "do 360's". The SI joint actually has very limited motion. It moves in a nodding type motion known as nutation. When this nutation is disrupted, SI joint dysfunction follows. The piriformis muscle originals from the anterior surface of the sacrum directly next to the SI joint. It then runs inferiorly and laterally through the greater sciatic foramen and inserts on the greater trochanter of the femur. In today's video, I go over techniques to end your low back pain resulting from SI joint dysfunction. First, we need to perform myofascial release on the involved piriformis muscle. We do this with a spikey massage ball. Using your arms and legs to gage your pressure on the massage ball, we self massage the piriformis muscle. Next, I demonstrate 2 exercises to help strengthen and restore motion to the SI Joint. You may need to work on your SI joint daily for several days or even weeks to restore normal motion. So be patient! Give these awesome techniques a try if you have chronic low back pain resulting from si joint dysfunction. After you do, let me know how it felt. Did you notice some immediate relief? Leave me a comment in the comment section down below. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Remember, stay young and train hard!
