Big shout out to Bastl Instruments for sending the Midilooper. This setup is pretty wilddd : as usual, the Digitakt provides most of the drums as well as the bass. The bass goes through the ZOIA for some additional effects in the outro (some fuzz, flanger and filters). The Microcosm heavily processes the guitar and acts as a looper. The looper is not synced to the rest of the setup like the Aeros usually is (though you can sync the Microcosm with MIDI clock too). Here I used it to record some noodling and create that loose background texture, which I'm reusing at 3:17. The Octatrack plays the synth samples, it also applies an envelope to the tape loop I'm starting at 0:17. The tape loop is actually a noisy recording of some voices singing a steady notes, but with the short envelope from the Octatrack it kinda sounds like a hi-hat or a tambourine, I really like it. I also use the crossfader to increase the release of that envelope sometimes, which reveals the vocal quality of the original sound here and there. Last but not least, the Bastl Instruments Midilooper is looping some MIDI, as the name suggests. It can be used as a sequencer but what I really like about it is the way it can record CC informations really smoothly. CC messages can be used to modulate some parameters on the Digitakt (or any hardware with a solid MIDI implementation), and by recording them into the Midilooper, you can quickly turn a steady sequence into something super dynamic. Basically, all the knob twisting I'm doing at 0:35 is recorded into the Midilooper and the resulting data is then played on a loop that I can stop at any moment. The cool thing is that it's not synced to the rest of the setup (it could be though!), so it creates some ever-changing configurations and a lot of unpredictability. Here the knobs control the reverb send and the pitch on some drums as well as the pitch of the synth. Every element was recorded separately in Logic where I added some reverb and delay. I mixed the whole thing and mastered the result with Izotope Ozone 9. Anywayyy, this setup was really fun and I'm pretty happy with how the jam turned out, hope you'll like it too.
