Most people visit the bamboo grove and leave… but there’s actually so much more to experience if you slow down and keep walking. From quiet streets and riverside views to unexpected moments just beyond the main path, this turned out to be one of our favourite days in Kyoto. In this video, we start in Arashiyama, walk through the bamboo grove, explore some of the quieter areas nearby, then travel across Kyoto to finish the day at the Golden Pavilion — a really easy and well-balanced combination if you’re planning a visit. If you're planning a Kyoto trip, hopefully this gives you a realistic feel for what a day here looks like — including the crowds, the quieter moments, and how to link these two iconic locations together.
