The Botswana Police Service marked a significant milestone with the enlistment of 873 recruits under Intake No.1 of 2025, including 845 former Special Constables elevated to full-time police officers. This intake reflects the government’s vision of building a new Botswana anchored in peace, security, and stability, and represents not just an increase in personnel but a commitment to professional, values-driven policing. Addressing the recruits, President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko urged them to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and accountability, emphasizing that their authority is derived from the people they serve. He highlighted the importance of community-oriented policing, encouraging officers to build trust and strong partnerships with communities to effectively prevent and manage crime. The President reaffirmed Botswana’s firm stance against corruption and gender-based violence, describing GBV as a serious national concern and calling on officers to be protectors of the vulnerable rather than contributors to the problem. He warned that internal decay is the greatest threat to any institution and stressed that law enforcement officers must remain beyond reproach. President Boko concluded by describing the pass-out parade as a renewal of national values, discipline, integrity, service, and compassion and declared the new intake ready to serve Botswana with honor and dedication.
