1 Handed Phacoemulsification after 2 Handed Phaco Chop Phacoemulsification is a surgical technique whereby the natural crystalline lens of a human eye is emulsified ( broken into tiny pieces) and aspirated (sucked) out of the eye through a special phacoemulsification needle mounted on a special hand-piece which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to break the lens. The lens is usually cataractous, meaning that it has started to opacify and that intern starts to affect the vision. In almost all cases, phacoemulsification, phaco for short, is followed by implantation of a prosthetic acrylic intra-ocular lens implant, commonly referred to as IOL. This surgery was performed using Alcon's Centurion Phacoemulsification machine by Dr Sarbjit Singh at Dr Shamshser Singh Eye Hospital, Khanna, Punjab, India.
