This is an all analog, stereo FET compressor using discrete circuitry based on the original legendary 1176. Two channels are incorporated which can be stereo linked via the switch on the rear of the unit, or used separately as two mono channels. The sound is absolutely astounding and can be used to enhance and reshape all sources of audio. The output transformer stage has been omitted in this design. All other aspects of the circuitry closely follow the specifications of the original Revision D 1176. We found that the FET gain reduction circuit is the important component of the classic sound of this compressor, responsible for it's real character, while the transformer stage has a barely detectable effect yet is the most costly element. By going transformerless we can deliver the classic characteristics of the original at an accessible price whilst using high quality components throughout the rest of the circuitry. Each unit is lovingly hand made and individually tested for build and sound quality. Attack and Release times are slowest when turned counter clockwise and fastest when turned clockwise, as they were on all 1176 variations.
