Cutts is sharing the development challenges facing London and the role of planning and design in addressing those challenges, focusing on a case study of the Old Kent Road, a regeneration area in Central London. --- “Planning for growth: London” The lecture will outline the development challenges facing London and the role of planning and design in addressing those challenges. It will focus on a case study of the Old Kent Road, a regeneration area in central London where an extension to London’s underground network is generating an opportunity to build 20,000 new homes, a new town centre and 10,000 new jobs. In many ways the regeneration context in the Old Kent Road is a microcosm of London. Public discussions around a number of key themes including the Mayor of London’s ambition for “good growth”, the retention of jobs and industry in the centre of the city and the increasing emphasis on creating healthy cities are representative of those taking place across London and the UK as a whole. --- Tim Cutts: Tim Cutts is a chartered city planner working in London. He has been responsible for managing major planning applications as well as leading on the delivery of strategic planning frameworks in Southwark, including plans for Elephant and Castle, Canada Water and the Aylesbury Estate. He is currently a senior regeneration manager at Southwark council, where he is leading on a number of projects associated with the Old Kent Road opportunity area including the preparation of masterplans, coordination of infrastructure development and regeneration of the council’s own landholdings. --- What is AURA on Saturdays [Cumartesi Aurası]?
