Basey is a 1st class municipality in the province of Samar, Philippines. Its area is approximately 53,300 hectares, comprised of coastal and inland plains, hills, mountains and rivers. The people of Basey are primarily engaged in farming and agriculture, fishing, local commerce, education and cottage industries (notably, mat-weaving more locally known as banig). Tourism is also a viable source of revenue for the town. Among its remarkable places of interest are the Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park, century-old St. Michael the Archangel Church, and the Golden River.
