The illusion of simplicity - Marky Ramone at The utton Factory, Dublin 28/01/2026 If authenticity was an issue for anyone, the point was already missed— and probably the beat. Calling this a “tribute band” is what people say when they don’t understand drums, timing, or muscle memory. When Marky Ramone counts in at The Button Factory, it’s infrastructure — and if you want to hear more about this I suggest watching End of the Century. They opened with Do You Wanna Dance?, a song that looks simple until you realise simplicity is dangerous when it’s unmastered. Even from a Beach Boys point of view it’s practically brutal: no harmonies to hide behind, no arrangement cushion, just force rhythm and absolute precision. Sixty minutes followed, no filler, classic after classic played fast and tight by people who understand punk as discipline, not lifestyle branding. Front row got rough (not a bad thing). Volume wasn’t 1977-lethal (or even 1985 TV club lethal) — hence I’m not deaf today — but the intent was intact. Yes, they all look suspiciously similar: same hair dye ? Cry about it. The Ramones were always a self-referencing cartoon that turned repetition into a weapon. Marky Ramone Blitzkrieg closed, ceremoniously with Blitzkrieg Bop because Hey Ho Let’s Go isn’t nostalgia, it’s an order. Marky doesn’t talk. He plays. And that’s the point.
