In 1972, two fully rigged Mazda Rx-2's (and a third as a service car) started the Monte Carlo Rally from Oslo. An Airforce Major and a Car Dealership Manager were the main drivers. Both had tried their luck on the Monte before. Extremely tough rules meant small chances of success for the adventurous amateur. Still, one of the two cars came very close to a class victory and a small rotary sensation. Allegedly, however, they'd broken an unwritten rule somewhere along the way...
