Schönbrunn is a Baroque castle with extensive gardens, with which it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited monuments in Austria. Although Schönbrunn is not as large as Versailles near Paris, it is undoubtedly one of the most famous European landmarks. The castle boasts 1,441 rooms, 200 kitchens and several huge representative halls. Around 45 rooms are currently open to the public. The interior of the castle is decorated in a sumptuous and richly decorated Rococo style that captivates all visitors. The exclusive Hall of Mirrors is of interest, where the six-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart demonstrated his miraculous talent for playing the piano. In 1830, Franz Joseph I was born in Schönbrunn and later spent most of his working life here with his wife Sisi. The castle also witnessed the end of the monarchy, when Emperor Charles I signed his abdication in the Blue Chinese Salon, which brought about the end of Austria-Hungary.
