Igor Stravinsky, born on June 17, 1882, in Oranienbaum, Russia, is widely recognized as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. The son of a prominent opera singer, Stravinsky began studying music in childhood but initially graduated in Law. His interest in composition intensified under the guidance of composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Stravinsky's career took off when he was invited by impresario Serge Diaghilev to work with the Ballets Russes. His first major success was "The Firebird" (1910), followed by "Petrushka" (1911). However, his most famous work, "The Rite of Spring" (1913), caused a scandal at its premiere due to its innovative approach and Vaslav Nijinsky's daring choreography, establishing Stravinsky as a revolutionary figure in music. During World War I, he exiled himself in Switzerland and later moved to the United States in the 1930s. This phase of his career is marked by a transition to neoclassicism, where he incorporated elements of 18th-century music into his compositions. Notable works from this period include "Pulcinella" (1920) and "Oedipus Rex" (1927). Stravinsky continued to evolve artistically throughout his life, exploring different musical styles and techniques. He passed away in New York on April 6, 1971, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to influence composers and musicians to this day.
