Varahamihira was a scientist who was a contemporary of the King Buddhagupta. He was staying in Bharat since the time of his grandfather Mihiradatta. He did significant work in the fields of Mathematics, Astronomy and Astrology. Mehrauli (earlier name Mihirāvalī) area of Delhi is named after him. With financial assistance from Buddhagupta, Varahamihira made an observatory and erected a pillar in memory of Buddhagupta’s grandfather King Chandragupta Vikmramaditya.
