I will not be ranking character reveals that happened in quick succession (melee and brawl cinematic openings/announcement trailers) as it would be difficult to separate the analysis surrounding the announcement/opening cinematic to the character reveal itself. I will be using 3 criteria for ranking the character reveal trailers. Hype: How hype was the announcement? Did people absolutely lose their shit when they were revealed? Were people indifferent and could care less? Did people protest the addition saying it was a “wasted character slot”? There is an overall consensus on how hype each character was so I will be using that as an objective measure Presentation: How did the trailer look? Was it an entertaining trailer? Was it exciting, funny, visually pleasing? Was there a cool buildup or story leading up to the eventual reveal? Or was it uninspired and plain? Historical Significance: How big of a splash was their introduction to the series? Was it groundbreaking? Did it open up avenues for other characters/IP's to join the battle? Were there any memorable moments that came with the trailer? Were memes/artwork (I use that word very loosely LMAO) created following the trailer? Or was their inclusion historically insignificant? Finally, I am open to discourse regarding a character’s score. If the argument is convincing enough, I will award them or dock them points, which may move them up/down a tier.
