Meet Amaechi Kelechi Justine, Executive Director of the Community Conciliation and Development Initiative — a civil society organization championing governance, policy reform, and social accountability in the Niger Delta. With PIND’s support, his team has mobilized critical stakeholders to tackle one of the biggest obstacles to small business growth in Rivers State: multiple and illegal taxation. This challenge has long burdened smallholders, farmers, and nano enterprises, fueling poverty and conflict. Through PIND’s Advocacy partnership, Amaechi and his organization have galvanized civil society, business associations, and other interest groups to push for reform. One major win? The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service recently launched a USSD tax payment code, making it easier for small businesses and citizens to pay taxes securely and transparently — a key advocacy milestone. Their ongoing collaboration with PIND continues to produce tangible results, driving forward research, advocacy, and innovative solutions to promote economic growth and peace in the region.
