Invited Lecture / 2022 University of the Philippines Annual Postgraduate Medical Course A colorectal stricture is defined as narrowing of the large bowel. The patient can develop symptoms of abdominal pain, distension, diarrhea, constipation, and inability to move their bowel motions normally. Traditionally, most symptomatic colorectal strictures were managed by surgical resection with the possibility of a diverting stoma. In the last two decades, the field of therapeutic endoscopy has evolved, providing an endoscopic option for the management of colorectal strictures. In this lecture delivered at the University of the Philippines Annual Postgraduate Medical Course, Professor Maher A. Abbas describes the endoscopic management of symptomatic colorectal strictures. All aspects of this condition are discussed, including all the modern advanced techniques for the treatment of patients. Professor Maher A. Abbas is a world-renowned colorectal surgeon with extensive expertise in therapeutic endoscopy. He currently cares for local and international patients in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
