📍knuckles five peaks uresha sewwandi සුන්දරත්වයෙන් පිරුණු පාරාදීසයක් වන knuckles 5 peaks ⛰️🌿💚❤️ #gopro hero 12 Covered in the mist for most of the time, this hidden paradise is a must visit if you want to escape to the mountains. Knuckles mountain range, so called as it resembles the knuckles of the fist, consists of 5 peaks. It is traditionally known as 'Dumbara Kanduvetiya' meaning mist-laden mountain range. Most hikers go up to the 2nd peak which is over 1800 m, and sometimes camp at the campsites set up in the forest below the peak. You can experience climbing all 5 peaks in one day without camping. For this, the journey has to be started early in the morning with light pack. It is a moderately strenuous hike and takes about 6 hours to reach the 5th peak from the trail head. There is a clear foot pathway till the 2nd peak and the trail can be easily traced thereafter. If you are new to this environment, it is better to have a local guide. Located in Matale District, a 5 hour drive from Colombo, it offers a remarkable trekking experience in a setting of scenic beauty with picturesque landscape, streams of crystal water and cloud forest. It is an area with varying climatic conditions and different ecosystems rich in biodiversity, and is home to many species of endemic fauna and flora. Apart from its aesthetic value and scientific interest, it is also a place of historical value. Knuckles Conservation Forest was declared as a UNESCO natural world heritage site in 2010 as part of Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. There are two routes to start the trail, from Bambarella side and from Thangappuwa side, both can be accessed by public transport. The trek isn't too challenging so it's a good walk close to nature. Few things to pay attention in this trekking; bring enough water as there are no water sources after some distance, protection from leeches and unpredictable weather. The climb may be a bit tiring, but it's definitely worth every minute spent there. #travel#knukles#paradise#srilanka
