MESAGE FROM OUR GUEST SPEAKER: "Neurodiverse? Who me? But...I was ‘just like’ my friends and family. The world was a bit of a weird place but my place in space was clearly stable. After two of my teenage children and then one by one over time...EIGHT of my friends were all diagnosed as “Neurodiverse” either Autistic or ADHD or Au/ADHD...I did start to take notice. Like a mouse suspiciously sniffing the cheese from a safe space I also eventually ventured out to ‘be tested.” After me, several more friends also crept out curiously, eventually bringing the count up to 13 and rising. Apparently, we run in packs. Diagnosed with ADHD combined in mid-2024, I felt like my younger son when he commented after his diagnosis of Autism “I'm not broken! Im just Autistic, now it all makes sense.” By the end of 2024, empowered by my new identity, I resigned from a workplace which did not serve me well and took an enormous leap of faith – eyes closed out into the Abyss...to launch a new small business "Cloud House Therapies.” People talk about ‘adapting’ therapy to suit Neurodiversity, but I'm just doing what I ‘know’ in my core is the way to approach the healing, growth and development of a being….through the whole self. Body, Mind and Spirit. Affect one, affect all. Our Thoughts, Feelings and Actions interrelated and connected. With a background of Psychology and Counselling, I am also a Fitness Professional and Massage therapist, I have completed a Diploma of Art Therapy and studied and practised mindfulness and meditation for many years." Autistic people have a growing kind of culture, and each autistic experience is a vital part of it. Dr. Dawn Prince-Hughes is an anthropologist, ethnographer, primatologist, and author who is autistic. Join her for an exploration of the importance of autistic self-expression and the culture that grows from it.
