Honda Fit GD3 K Swap Part 1 Frame Notching

K20a2 swapping GD3 Honda Fit requires frame notching to clear the driver side frame rail. In this video we've already done the obvious, and remove the L15 to make room for the K swap. We've also removed the subframe to make it easier to work in and around the bay, a requirement to get the shifter cables and assembly out later. Notching the frame requires cutting a 2.5" hole, near where the OEM mount attaches to the frame. This allows for the transmission stub to fit under inside the frame. This modification is required for all K series transmissions to fit into the GD Fit/Jazz. This modification can/could cause structural integrity problems so we tube the hole and add a backing plate to decrease the chance of failure. We opened the hole to 3" and added a 3" tube, welding on all sides. Then added a backing plate against the frame rail, again welding to the frame and tube. Post welding we sanding, primed, sealed and painted the hole.
