This Gaelic love song written by Ailig Iain MacDhòmhnaill was recorded on location in Lewis as part of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's e-ceilidh series. The e-ceilidh which showcased performers young and old across the Western Isles was presented by Alyth McCormack. The music was recorded in Wexford, Ireland by Noel Eccles. A Ribhinn Og bheil Cuimhn’Agad A ribhinn og bheil cuimhn agad, ‘S a ghruagach dhonn an cluinn thu mi? A ribhinn og bheil cuimhn agad An oidhche mundo sheol mi? O ‘s e blaths na h-oidche sin, Cha teid gu brath a cuimhne dhomh; ‘S ann ort a bhios mi cuimhneachadh Gach oidhche fhliuch is reoite. Gur fada, fada thall tha mi, ‘S chan fhaigh mi null a shealltainn ort, ‘S ged dhirinn bharr nan crann aice Chan fhaic mi beanntan Leodhais. Tha mi falbh Diciadain uat ‘S chan fhaic thu airson bliadhna mi, ‘S feuch nach dean an cianlas Do liathadh ged is og thu. Nuair bhios mi ag a’ chompais ‘S a bhios an oidhche gheamhraidh ann Bidh ghealach toirt ‘nam chuimhne-sa Liuthad oidhche bha sinn comhla Young lass do you remember Young lass do you remember, Brown haired girl do you hear me? Young lass do you remember The night before I sailed? O the warmth of our love on that night, It will never go from my memory; It is of you that I think, Each wet and frosty night. Far, far away I am And cannot get back to see you, And although I might climb to the top of the masts I cannot see the hills of Lewis. I leave you on Wednesday. And you will not see me for a year And do not let the sadness of it Turn you grey, although you are young. When I am at the compass On a winter’s night The moon brings back to my memory So many nights when we were together.
