This project features a 2¼” Red Oak Select hardwood installation with custom treads, risers, and nosing. The treads and risers were finished about a week before the start of the job, then precisely cut and fitted on site. Before installation, the stringers were leveled to correct a 2-inch variance between the highest and lowest steps. After adjustment, each step was brought to uniform height for a smooth, consistent rise throughout the staircase. Each tread and riser was installed using adhesive and nails, ensuring a secure fit and lasting bond. The flooring was installed using a full contact glue-down system over a sealed concrete subfloor, with Bona R-540 Primer providing both a moisture barrier and strong adhesion for long-term stability. Two coats of Bona Natural Sealer were applied to build color and even out absorption. Red oak’s open grain tends to soak up the first coat, so the second coat helps neutralize natural yellow tones, creating a lighter and more balanced appearance. For durability, the surface received two coats of Bona Traffic HD RAW, a commercial-grade finish that maintains the natural look of raw wood while adding surface protection. The ultra-matte sheen gives the floor a soft, untreated appearance with long-lasting performance.
