They are colourful, available for purchase everywhere and easy to use: disposable e-cigarettes. They are advertised as life-style products and, if they contain nicotine, they can be addictive. This is especially dangerous for children and adolescents, who are strongly targeted by the many colours and different flavours. We had a closer look at a disposable e-cigarette containing nicotine. Basically, it consists of a battery, some wire, a container with liquid and the shell with a mouthpiece. The nicotine in the liquid is extracted from tobacco. The batteries contain lithium and copper, among others. Once the battery is exhausted, disposables are simply electronic waste. But they are unlikely to be discarded properly. Thus, rechargeable batteries are not only wasted, but the raw materials are also not recycled. In this video, we show you where #tobacco, #lithium and #copper come from and what their cultivation or mining means in #Bangladesh, #Argentina and #Peru. Because these supply chains start with the violation of human rights and the devastation of the environment. These problems are also inherent in the supply chains of e-cigarettes, which are not disposable. Together with the German Initiative Lieferkettengesetz and the campaign #EspinarNoPuedeEsperar, we therefore call for an effective EU due diligence law that obliges companies to prevent human rights violations and environmental destruction in their supply chains and to compensate people harmed by their practices. #YesEUcan #HoldBizAccountable #JusticeNotProfit Thank you Farida of @ubinignayakrishi Thank you Pía of @farnargentina Thank you Ariana and @espinarnopuedeesperar8540 In a second episode we ask the questions: What can be done in the face of these diverse problems?
