This flock stems from the California bloodlines of the Cormo sheep brought to the USA from Australia. The Cormo is a 3/4 Merino bloodline and 1/4 Corriedale bloodline bred to help the Merino birth rates improve and exist in selenium deficient soils. The breed excels in the central highlands of Tasmania and therefore is best suited in the High Desert regions of the USA such as Eastern CA, OR & WA. Ewes at 4 year maturity, can be bred 3 times in a 2 year period, but only twice. Such an example in 2012 at the Sacramento County Fair produced the runner up fleece of 'Lila' who delivered triplets in January and a single in December of the same year. Grade 1 with a 17.5 micron fleece. A docile polled bred which delivers multiple lambs each year. The 'ladies sheep' with exceptional fleece for spinning in the grease and commercial high-end grade worsted yarns. Those who love top or roving for spinning and felting would best seek out a facility such as Zeilinger Wool Co in Michigan, or the Shepherds Mill in Kansas. Remember, the superpower of sheep is turning grass into fleece; which returns in growth every year for up to 9 years. Always shear before lambing, and feed top quality orchard grass.
