In this episode of Living in Long Beach, I sit down with my friend James from LB Food Coma to talk about how Long Beach’s food scene has grown, evolved, and is finally starting to get the attention it deserves. We filmed this conversation at Ammatoli, one of my favorite restaurants in the city and a perfect example of what’s happening here right now — chefs taking risks, honoring culture, and creating something truly special for the community. James grew up in Long Beach, worked in family-run restaurants, spent time in design and real estate, and eventually followed his curiosity into what became LB Food Coma. What started as a goal to meet five new people a day turned into a platform that now highlights dozens of local restaurants every week and helps people experience Long Beach neighborhood by neighborhood.
