Robotic Prostate Aquablation with Strauss MCP by Dr. Sijo Parekattil

I love Fridays - we call them flow Fridays. We get to do Robotic Prostate Aquablation cases for men with an enlarge prostate to get them to pee like they were 15 or 16 again! We completed a milestone today - 103 Aquablation (with MCP) cases so far. 5 cases today using the MCP (Meticulous Cauterization Protocol) with apical preservation using the Strauss Bipolar Electrocautery system. We are now utilizing the Strauss system to achieve more effective & efficient hemostasis while trying to preserve post-op ejaculation function. It is usually is a bit of a trade-off: in order to get less bleeding, we need to perform more cautery and that then leads to more ejaculatory dysfunction and vice versa. We are hoping that the use of the new Strauss system will allow us to achieve both less bleeding and preserved ejaculatory function. The Strauss system achieves this by providing a more focused bipolar cautery so that less energy is required to minimize prostatic bleeding. So far it seems to be working great. It offers a much cleaner resection and effective hemostasis so that we do not need to use button cauterization. This creates a great prostatic cavity with almost no post-operative bleeding. This means that the patient can be discharged home 1 hour after surgery, does not require a hospital stay, does not require bladder irrigation and does not need require foley catheter traction. Would you ever want your privates placed on traction? Never. It’s also a much more cost effective solution than most of the competing technologies. Let’s use technology to provide safer and more comfortable care for all men undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.
