Snow Board Championship is from Gaelco, the Spanish arcade company perhaps better known for the two World Rally games. This one is sort of similar on a superficial level, but it's nowhere near as fun. I'm making this video because there doesn't seem to be any video footage of the game online, most likely because it is, as of this writing, unplayable in MAME due to some uncracked protection. The only way to play it is with the genuine PCB, and I happened across one a little ago. Maybe this is of some interest to some arcade historian or MAME developer. There are three different types courses in the game. Course Overall, Giant Slalom and Special Slalom, which are ranked for Beginner, Amateur and Professional accordingly. Honestly they're all quite simple. In Speed courses you simply go down the hill, in the two others there are flags which you need to avoid. In all of them you have 50 seconds to get to the finish line, or it's Game Over. The game does have an interesting curiosity in that after each course you can challenge that same course again, only this time you need to beat your previous time. The two game modes are similar. In the Champion mode you go through the tracks in the order of Course Overall, Giant Slalom, Special Slalom, and then you repeat until all the courses are done. The mode I start at 18:43 is pretty much the same thing, the only difference is that you first go through all the Course Overall courses, then all the Giant Slalom ones and finally the Special Slalom ones. So only the course progression is different. The two modes even have the exact same Congratulation screen. You only control the snowboarder left and right and hold down the button to keep your speed up. All the jumps and tricks are done automatically. So it's a very simple and easy game, I played bad in the beginning on purpose to show the Game Over and Continue screens.
