In this special addition of Abbey’s Kitchen Toilet Talks, Abbey is here to answer darkest, stinkiest toilet troubles. Abbey’s got a letter from Harriet, who’s got a few stresses this holiday season. Harriet loves the holidays however every time she attends a holiday party she gets heartburn. It feels like an elephant was sitting on my chest and was majorly uncomfortable. Harriet has tried antacids, but by then it was too late. Harriet is in desperate need of any tips to help her get through this holiday season heartburn-free, while still enjoy her favourite foods. Abbey can relate to the discomfort. During the holidays, a ton more people experience heartburn because you’re typically eating rich foods that you don’t normally eat on a regular basis. Plus, you tend eat/drink more than your normally do, which is why they’ve coined the term: Holiday Heartburn. Abbey’s got you covered with some great tips to help you actually enjoy your holiday meals heartburn-free. Tip one. Have a snack before. Some people may skip a meal to save room for the feast, but you’ll likely overeat at the meal and get very uncomfortable. Tip two. Wear comfortable clothing. Ditch the tight clothing and belts because they can push against your stomach and force stomach acid into your esophagus. Tip three. Use a small plate. Pick a few of your favs to start and before going for seconds, ask yourself whether you’re hungry or just bored. Tip four. Eat slowly. Eating too quickly may cause heartburn. Tip five. Choose lean cuts of meat. High fat foods may bring on heartburn. Tip six. Drink alcohol in moderation. Alcohol relaxes our lower esophageal sphincter making it easier for acid to creep into your esophagus. Tip seven. Enjoy high fat sauces on the side. Tip eight. Watch your stress, which can boost your stomach acid levels. Tip nine. Talk a walk to promote digestion. Tip ten. Save leftovers Don’t feel pressured to finish your plate. Tip eleven. Avoid lying own right after your meal. Wait at least three hours after eating to lie down. Tip twelve. Say yes to dessert, but don’t overdo it so you can enjoy in moderation. Tip thirteen. Ask your doctor about over the counter meds if heartburn continues. Abbey hopes these tips are helpful for Harriet. The bottom line is that the holidays are about spending time with family and friends and most importantly indulge without the guilt. Making a few simple changes at the dinner table will save you a ton of discomfort later on so you can party the night away.
