(9 May 2019) Argentina's security minister Patricia Bullrich has said it's unclear whether the shooting of a national lawmaker and a provincial official on Thursday was politically motivated. The official, Miguel Marcelo Yadón, was killed in the attack, and the lawmaker, Héctor Olivares, was seriously injured. Bullrich said Yadon appeared to be the main target. "We are not going to speak now about a possible conspiracy against democracy or frame it on the country's political moment," she told reporters. "There are mafias working in our country," she added. The two victims - reportedly friends since their teenage years - were shot near the congressional building in Buenos Aires. It's one of the most brazen political attacks in Argentina since it returned to democracy in 1983.
