“Freedom is not the ability to do what one wishes, but what one ought to do.” Postulancy is the first year of formation in the Capuchin Franciscan life. The word comes from "postulare," meaning “to ask.” This is a year of asking: Is this the life God is calling me to? Is this what I ought to do? During this time, men live with the friars as they take part in daily prayer, work, ministry, and community life. It is a time to discern whether Christ is calling them to the Capuchin vocation. Capuchin life is contemplative and active, modeled after Christ who served the people, withdrew to pray, and returned again to give. Most people wouldn’t expect joy to come from silence, structure, or giving up their phone. “When you have your brothers with you, it doesn’t feel like a burden. It feels like freedom.” ---- Could the Capuchin Franciscan life be for you? We serve in California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. If you’re in the western U.S. and feel called to this way of life, send us a message: https://capuchinswest.org/contact-voc... INSTAGRAM: / capuchinswest
