In this episode, Professor Jacques de Werra and Professor Irene Calboli cover the second edition of the 'Research Handbook on Intellectual Property Licensing’. About the editors: Jacques de Werra is Professor of Contract Law and Intellectual Property (IP) Law and founding Director of the Digital Law Center (www.digitallawcenter.ch (http://www.digitallawcenter.ch) ) at the Faculty of Law, University of Geneva. From 2015 until 2019, he was Vice-Rector of the University of Geneva, in charge of leading the University's digital strategy. Jacques has taught as visiting professor at leading universities including Harvard Law School (as Charles Hieken Visiting Professor in Patent Law for a course on international intellectual property transactions in the winter terms 2022 and 2024) and Stanford Law School (in 2017 and 2023), Paris II Panthéon-Assas, Nagoya University and City University of Hong Kong. He has practiced law (commercial law, IP law and arbitration) in Switzerland (Geneva and Zurich) at a major business law firm and has obtained an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School and was admitted to the New York bar (in addition to his admission to the Swiss bar). Jacques acts as legal expert and consultant in IP law, technology & digital law, contract law and sports law and he also practices international arbitration (as arbitrator and consultant/legal expert). He is a member of the Board of the Geneva Center for International Dispute Settlement (CIDS, www.cids.ch (http://www.cids.ch) ) and of the Committee of the Geneva Master of International Dispute Settlement (MIDS, www.mids.ch (http://www.mids.ch) ). He has widely published in leading law journals (including the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology) and has authored/edited various books of reference including The Law and Practice of Trademark Transactions (co-edited with Irene Calboli). She holds several honorary and visiting appointments, including at SciencesPo Paris, Bocconi University, Melbourne University and Stanford University. In 2022, she was a Fulbright-Hanken Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics in Finland and, in 2018, a Fulbright Specialist Scholar at the Royle University of Law and Economics in Cambodia. She is a member of the editorial board of the Oxford Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice, the Queen Mary Journal of Intellectual Property, and the WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute and the European Law Institute. She serves on the board of several professional associations, including the Comparative Law and European Law Sections of the Association of American Law Schools, the International Law Association, the European Policy for Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association. Irene regularly advises national governments and international organizations and is currently serving as Expert for the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Trade Organization, the U.N.
