Welcome to this special Glaze-A-Long video where I take you step by step through the glazing of a large stoneware flower bowl using the Frozen Pond Technique! This technique has created so much intrigue since I first shared my finished piece, and I’ve had so many questions: What glazes did I use? How many coats? How did I layer them? So, instead of replying one by one, I thought it would be fun (and useful!) to take you along with me in real time. This large bowl was actually one of my potential competition entries for my recent pottery market. The response to it has been overwhelming, and I’m still a little speechless about how much interest it has sparked. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how I glazed it from start to finish, including: ✨The glaze combinations I used and why I chose them ✨How many coats were applied and in what order ✨The specific application methods that created the Frozen Pond effect ✨My thought process and tips for achieving smooth, flowing glaze layers I glazed this bowl on Millennium White stoneware clay (from Valentine Clays, UK) and fired it to a hot cone 6.5. The result was something truly magical, and I include the actual kiln opening section in this video—where you’ll see me absolutely stunned and speechless at how beautifully it turned out. 🌊 If you’ve ever wanted to try the Frozen Pond glaze technique, or you’re just curious about layering glazes on a larger form, this video will give you the confidence and details you need to have a go yourself. I hope this inspires you to experiment with your own glaze combinations—don’t forget to let me know in the comments if you try this technique, or if you have your own special glaze layering tricks! 👉 Subscribe for more behind-the-scenes of real pottery life: triumphs, failures, and everything in between. 📌 Make sure you don't miss a new video by subscribing - its free!
