Living in Japan: Visiting 7 cities in a month 🗾

This month was a whirlwind of adventures, from reconnecting with my best friend to exploring stunning castles and even throwing myself a solo Halloween celebration. It was a mix of highs, lows, and unforgettable memories. 🌟 I started the month back in Beppu, where I reunited with my best friend, Joanna. She was volunteering at a neighboring hostel, and we spent two blissful weeks soaking up ocean views 🌊, walking along the beach, and enjoying chilled drinks 🍹. Beppu felt like home after my time there earlier this year, and it was so special to experience it again with a close friend. Next, I set out on a trip across Japan 🚗💨. Here’s where I went: Kokura: I explored the beautiful Kokura Castle 🏯, wandered around Sugahara Shrine, visited Yasaka Shrine Kaguradan, and soaked in the peaceful vibe at Jodoshu Choenji. Kokura was a perfect mix of history and tranquility. Yamaguchi: Yamaguchi wasn’t buzzing with activity, but the scenic coastline drives made it unforgettable. I visited the jaw-dropping Akiyoshido Cave, admired the red torii gates of Fukutoku Inari Shrine and Motonosumi Inari Shrine, and took a stroll in the historic Hagi City. Perfect for road trip vibes! 🚙⛩️ Matsue: This city stole my heart with its mix of nature and history. I started at Mefu Shrine, then explored Matsue Gokoku Shrine and the iconic Matsue Castle 🏯. The Matsue Horikawa Boat Tour offered stunning canal views, and I wrapped up my visit at the serene Yuushien Flower Park 🌺. Tottori: What a unique experience! I stopped by the Sand Museum, where sand sculptures were so intricate they felt like art made of stone. Then, I explored the Tottori Sand Dunes—an absolute highlight. I even tried sandboarding for the first time, which was hilarious and harder than I expected! 🏜️ Himeji: This city was pure magic. Himeji Castle 🏯 blew me away with its scale and beauty, and Koko-en Garden was the perfect spot to unwind afterward. I also visited Himeji Gokoku Shrine, Himeji Jinja, and Harima no Kuni Sasha Shrine, each with its own charm. To end the day, I took a cable car up to Engyoji Temple, perched on Mount Shosha—a stunning way to end my time in Himeji. Finally, I ended the month in Kanazawa, hoping to reconnect with people after traveling solo for so long. Unfortunately, it turned out to be low season at the hostel, and I was the only volunteer. The hostel was closed a lot, and I found myself completely alone most days. It was tough, and I felt pretty isolated. But on Halloween, I decided to make the best of it by throwing myself a solo Halloween party 🎃👻. It was silly but fun—and definitely memorable!
