Tristan Guillaume, currently studying in the master drums program of the Jazz department, was awarded the FOCK medal that distinguishes the best final presentation of the 2021 graduates. Being the first of the drummers to graduate with a 10 since the start of the Jazz department more than four decades ago, he convinced the jury with overall excellence and graduated with distinction for exceptional artistry as a musician, composer, arranger and band leader. In this video, you will get to listen to the first piece of a 4 part series, 'Say it Again', part of the full program 'An Tarv' that Tristan performed for his final presentation, along with RC alumnus José Cervera Minguez on alto saxophone and current students Pietro Mirabassi on tenor saxophone, Dani Font on guitar and Snorri Skúlason on double bass. The program is comprised of original compositions by Tristan as well as re-imagined traditional music and a reading of an excerpt of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. The seemingly diverse sources are naturally bound by the great musicianship of the band that is in command of the dynamic and sonic range, making everything sound adventurous and organic at the same time. Jose Cervera Minguez – alto saxophone Pietro Mirabassi – tenor saxophone Dani Font – guitar Snorri Skulason – double bass Tristan Guillaume – drums All compositions by Tristan Guillaume except Ys and Barzhoneg (traditionals) and Impressions of Rachmaninoff (based on an excerpt of the first movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2) Recorded on June 2, 2021 at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague Tristan Guillaume – Creative Producer Jelle van der Meulen – Producer Siamak Anvaritutunchi – Camera and video-editing Justin Bekker – Camera and video-editing Kaan Yazici – Audio recording, mixing and mastering Bart Vliex & Tom van Hooff – Lighting
