Valencia 4k - the best Spanish cruise port. This is our top Spanish city to visit... for us, it beats Barcelona. It is easy to walk around, easy to see, it is clean, and the people are welcoming. The charm of Valencia hits you from all angles, and the walk to the largest old fresh produce market in Europe will take you past all the modern, named-brand shops. Nothing is far in this three-walled city... the circus of walls spans generations, the one you can see being the last conquerors, the Christians, who chased all the Muslim men from the city and started to repopulate. The locals tell of each soldier having 300 girlfriends, but the girls may not have seen it that way. Cathedrals were built, the rich had their faces carved above the doors, and history was rewritten. Of the twelve towers, two remain, the North Tower on the royal approach over the river that no longer flows and is now a park, is a perfect example. There is so much to see here, a two-and-a-half-hour tour (we went with Guru Tours - pay what you feel), and our guide was the wonderful Victoria, the same name as the ship that took us there. The route from the ship can be very confusing, as this is a working deep-water port also used by container and cargo ships. Guests need to leave the port on a shuttle, and return to the port from their bus on a shuttle. The shuttle leaves and drops you by the new Oceanographic Museum, walkway and park area.
