Welcome to Rochester! Yet another of my favorite towns. As usual, this will NOT be your typical guide to Rochester, Michigan! Intro 0:00 Dessert Oasis 0:46 Historic Rochester 2:17 Rochester Brunch House 3:14 Lagniappe 5:25 Downtown Shopping 5:46 O’Connor’s Public House 7:49 Rochester Hills Beer Co. 12:00 The Meeting House 13:24 Royal Park Hotel 15:56 Outro 16:54 It's hard to believe that Rochester (with a population of just over 13,000) all started out in 1895 with a well being dug for the surrounding community to have fresh water. Fast forward 126 years later and it has become one of Michigan’s most well known downtown areas. Like any great day, starting out with an amazing coffee is a must! When I'm visiting Rochester, my go-to for coffee is Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters. Not only do they make awesome coffee and desserts, as the name implies, but they also feature an awesome ambiance with live music a few days of the week. A couple notable places also worth checking out are Knapp’s Donuts and Denton Coffee Company. On our way to see some of the historic homes in Rochester, I like to stop through Rochester Municipal Park. With tennis & volleyball courts, paved walkways, and a duck pond (don’t feed the ducks - unless no one is watching) which doubles as a skating rink in the winter, it is a great place to spend the day. Just outside of downtown Rochester is the historic district, with many homes also being redone in recent years, providing a wonderful mix of beautiful houses. It truly is a gorgeous area to call home. When wanting a delicious breakfast in Rochester, I like to head to Rochester Brunch House. With a wide variety of selections made from fresh, organic foods it is a must visit. If you happen to visit Rochester right before Thanksgiving be sure to stop downtown for Lagniappe where vendors will be out with special sales, the beginning of the Big, Bright, Light Show, along with a visit from Santa & his reindeer. Downtown Rochester boasts over 30 independent stores that provide ample shopping opportunities, including specialty shops such as South Street, Rochester Bike Shop, Moon River Soap Company & many more. Pick up a copy of InTown, printed quarterly, for even more info on local businesses and events! If you’re looking for the perfect place for lunch (or dinner & drinks), look no further than O’Connor’s Public House. The perfect spin on an Irish Pub, this place is as close to Dublin as I can imagine without ever visiting there. Of course I want to give an honorable mention to a couple of my go-to restaurants here in Rochester, being Kruse & Muer, Lipuma’s Coney Island and Chomp Eatery. Next up we’re stopping by Rochester Hills Beer Co, which is located in the historic Western Knitting Mills building, built in 1844. With a wide variety of beers and mead, freshly brewed in house, it’s a phenomenal place to get together for a drink with friends, play some pool and have a fun night out. Rochester is a foodie paradise! For a great dinner or date night spot, check out The Meeting House on Main Street for a slightly upscale American cuisine with plates updated seasonally. You can’t go wrong here. I also highly recommend Bologna Via Cucina, Rochester Chop House, or Rochester Bistro for excellent alternatives. No Rochester video would be complete without mention of the Royal Park Hotel. This 4 Diamond hotel boasts all the amenities, including a bourbon & bonfire package, full service bar & restaurant. The hotel is beautifully decorated through the winter, making this the perfect place to stop in for a dinner, drink, or plan a staycation for anytime of the year.
