Greedflation: How Companies Are Taking Advantage Of Inflation

Supply chain problems in the economic stimulus we received during the pandemic were the primary source of the inflation. Currently, inflation is still at historically high levels, and individuals are looking for methods to reduce costs of living. Additionally, there is no standard for how high prices should rise when they are growing across the board. Others contend that the price increases of large corporations make it impossible for them to make a profit while still paying for inflation. Fewer corporations possess a larger share of important economic sectors including the retail and financial industries, and corporate earnings have increased faster than our economy's growth. Some individuals, however, view greedflation as a diversion from the current problem. There is no proof that this type of price gouging occurs across all industries, but some businesses may have engaged in it at some point. The fundamental issue is that inflation is still a problem. People are chasing too few resources with too much money. Greedflation might provide an explanation for why some businesses raised their prices, but it does not provide a way to stop inflation.
