Title: An Intentional Prayer Life. Pray Dressed For Battle! Text: Ephesians 6:10–20; Matthew 6:9–13 Believers, God never called us to fight life’s battles unprotected. In Ephesians 6, Paul says, “Be strong in the Lord,” ( so how can we be strong in the Lord?) and then commands us to “put on the whole armor of God.” This tells us our strength is spiritual, it is not just for joy alone, our strength is also that our protection is divine. But what completes this armor is intentional prayer. Notice that after naming every piece of armor—the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—Paul says, “Pray at all times…in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18). That means prayer is not optional. Prayer is what keeps the armor fastened, active, and effective. Now look at the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus taught us to pray with purpose: “Our Father…” reminds us the battle begins with relationship. “Hallowed be Thy name” is worship—because worship fixes our focus. “Thy kingdom come” is submission—putting God’s will above our emotions. “Give us this day” is dependence—faith for today’s strength. “Forgive us” is cleansing—because righteousness must stay on the heart. Righteousness is a result of faith. “Lead us not into temptation” is watchfulness, we too must be aware of temptations, what the look like, what they sound like, by whom they come by, —our shield of faith must stay up. And “Deliver us from evil” is spiritual warfare—asking God to rescue us when darkness presses in. The Armor teaches us how to stand, and the Lord’s Prayer teaches us how to pray while standing. When we pray intentionally, we don’t just survive—we stand firm, resist the enemy, and walk forward in victory. In Jesus’ name, stay dressed and stay praying. Amen.
