The street walk continues with Moers Castle (Moerser Schloss). Its first foundations date back to 1200. This Germany Walking Tour ends with a walk through the historic Castle Gardens (Moerser Schloss-Park). Moers is also home to an internationally renowned jazz festival, today called Moers Festival (formerly International Moers New Jazz Festival or mœrs festival). Moers is a regional center with a large pedestrian area that draws in shoppers from a large area. For some time, the town prided itself to be the smallest big city in Germany. The German term “Großstadt” (literally big city) refers to all cities with at least 100,000 inhabitants, and Moers’ population for many years was just above 100,000 (today 103,725 according to the latest census). Moers is located in the West of Germany, not far from the Dutch border, on the Western bank of the Rhine River, in the German region of North-Rhine-Westphalia.
