Zhang Qianyi ( b. 1959 ) Zhang Qianyi, of Korean ethnicity, was born in September 1959 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. He is a renowned composer in mainland China and a recipient of the State Council's special government allowance. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the 8th and 9th Councils of the Chinese Musicians' Association. Northern Forest, for Orchestra (1980/81) Composed between 1980 and 1981, this piece is a single-movement sonata form composition, with each section carrying a descriptive title: Night, Morning Glow, Mountain Song (Ascending), Nature and Animals, Afternoon, Sunset Glow, Sunset Fading in the West, Mountain Song (Descending), and Nightfall. In 1981, it won the First National Symphony Music Composition Award (First-Class Excellence Award, ranked sixth). Through the depiction of a day in the forest, the piece presents a musical landscape painting of the northern forest.
