The year 2026 marks 25 years since most of Amtrak's F40PH Locomotives had already become NPCUs for push-pull operations on intercity trains throughout most parts of the United States during the year 2001. The F40PH was the workhorse of Amtrak's entire fleet beginning in 1976 before the locomotive soldiered on in service until the summer of 2002. When Amtrak retired the F40s, the railroad decided to convert most of them into NPCUs for push-pull operations on intercity trains rather than scrapping every single one of them. In addition, most of Amtrak's F40s would be sold off to other railroads, donated to museums, or scrapped. And even though the F40PH might not be in service with Amtrak anymore, a good variety of them are operating as NPCUs in push-pull operations on intercity trains, operating at museums, operating on other railroads, and still operating in both commuter and passenger service with various upgrades, rebuilds, and overhauls. For this video, I have decided to include several clips of the Amtrak F40s that I have filmed after they became NPCUs for push-pull operations on intercity trains. I hope you enjoyed this video, and I'll see you next time for more exciting railroading and non-railroading adventures right here on the YouTube channel.
