ULTRA RARE Schindler Direct Drive (Mobile) Lift @ Snow + Rock, Covent Garden, London

Around the year 2000 Schindler released their Direct Drive design of lift. Features of this design include motor attached underneath the lift car and a destination dispatch style system where you select the floor you are travelling too on the outside of the lift. Whilst destination dispatch makes sense on sets of multiple lifts, so the correct lift can be allocated meaning everyone travelling to the same floor will use the same lift and there will be limited stops at other floors on the way, it is a very unusual design for a single lift, like this one. Due to the over complexity of the destination dispatch system, this design of lift was never popular to begin with and was therefore produced by Schindler for only around 1 year. Due to the short production time of these lifts it is difficult to source spare parts for them. There has also been reliability problems with the design. This means that these lifts are often replaced making them even rarer than they were to begin with. To see one of these lifts now in the UK is very rare. I really like this lift due to its unique design and very distinctive and nice motor sounds! This lift serves shop floors 0, 1, 2 and 3 in the Snow + Rock store in Covent Garden London.
