The numerator of 20/20 defines the testing distance of the person being tested and the denominator defines the testing distance that a person with “20/20” vision would have to stand in order to see the same sized letters. Definition of legal blindness in the US: If someone has 20/200 vision or less in the better seeing eye (with a corrective lens) or has less than 20 degrees of visual field, then they are considered legally blind.
