McMafia Season 1 (2018) Analysis: Globalization and Organized Crime

Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/JaysonMarkeyYT My name's Jayson Markey and I review movies and albums, recap TV shows and react to trailers and music videos! McMafia is a British-American crime drama miniseries created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins and directed by Watkins. It is inspired by the book McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld (2008) by journalist Misha Glenny. The series, which stars James Norton as Alex Godman, the British-raised son of a Russian mafia boss living in London whose father is trying to escape from the world of organised crime, is co-produced by the BBC and AMC. I explain how McMafia explores themes of globalization (Uncle Boris is a casualty), human trafficking, money laundering, white collar crime, Russian exiles, Trump, and how organized crime and gangs are starting to use business models like franchises like McDonalds and market share. Is this is a critique on capitalism itself.
