(26 Jan 1996) English/French/Russian Three hundred people have gathered in the Serb-held Sarajevo suburb of Ilidza to light candles for the dead and demonstrate against the Dayton peace accord. But the gathering was a far cry from the angry protests thousands staged shortly after the peace deal was signed in Paris on December 14th. The suburb will be handed over to Moslem government control on February 3rd. Some 300 Bosnian Serbs gathered in Ilidza to protest against the Dayton peace accord and to light candles in memory of those killed in the war. SOUNDBITE: English We can't afford to live with our enemies. SUPER CAPTION: Dragan Savic, rally organiser There was a great reluctance among demonstrators to remain in the suburb in accordance with the peace deal. SOUNDBITE: English I was born in Sarajevo in a Serb area. I'm now living in my little house near Ilidza, but with this situation I must go away. SUPER CAPTION: Dragan Savic, rally organiser Demonstrators feel the peace deal has sold them out. SOUNDBITE: English Dayton voted for our soul. SUPER CAPTION: Dragan Savic, rally organiser Certainly for some Bosnian Serbs Ilidza is more than just a home, there are memories too. SOUNDBITE: French My father, grandfather, and me we have always been here in Ilidza, and we shall never leave. Why should we? SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop The peace deal just does not seem to make sense to them. SOUNDBITE: French The guerillas have been fighting for three and half years and now it's finished. And as it's finished, we want to stay here. Why do we have to depart? SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop But the suburb will be formally handed over to the Moslem Bosnian government on February 3rd and while the residents can stay, many are expected to choose to go.
