Doctors in England walked off the job on Friday in a five-day strike over pay, after unsuccessful negotiations with the Labour government. Shivam Sharma, a resident doctor and spokesperson for the British Medical Association (BMA), said, "We don't have the doctors, doctors are tired, doctors are burnt out, and doctors are leaving." Currently earning around £18 per hour, doctors are demanding an increase to just over £22 per hour to provide essential life-saving care. In response, British Health Minister Wes Streeting said he was "angry" at the "reckless" strikes by resident doctors as the government continues to reject the BMA's demands for higher pay amid criticism of a recent 5.4 per cent pay rise, which the association deems insufficient to address years of salary stagnation.
