Lusaka City Council Removes 44 Illegal Billboards

By Cecilia Zgambo The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has removed 44 illegally placed billboards across the city over the past seven days. LCC Director of Planning, Biggie Chanda, stated that many of these billboards are erected at night and pose serious risks to public safety, particularly for road users. He emphasized that the removal exercise, which began on Monday, will continue as part of the Council’s broader initiative to clean up the city. In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Chanda also revealed that the Council will begin targeting billboards whose owners are not remitting fees to the local authority. He noted that failure to pay deprives the Council of vital revenue needed to support its daily operations. Meanwhile, some residents have expressed support for the initiative. Mike Banda, a local resident, said that certain billboards contribute to visual pollution and make the city appear untidy. #Billboards
