Hello and welcome to another Darkest Dungeon 2 boss fight guide. It looks like you need help defeating The Shackles of Denial 1 of the 5 major boss fights in Darkest Dungeon 2, don't worry The Boys have got you covered. So before we pick out who are the best heroes for this fight. The first tip for this boss fight is to not fight the boss right away. I'm saying this because if you went straight to the Shackles boss fight you would absolutely get destroyed due to your hero's being so under powered and unprepared. The first thing you want to do before you even attempt this boss fight is go visit several hero shrines as this is how heroes unlock their skills. You'll also want to get into as many fights as possible so you can complete your hero challenges and gather up as many candles as possible. You'll also want to get familiar with the 2 lair bosses Dreaming General and The Librarian. I recommend doing this because chapter 1 is the only chapter where you get 5 mastery points at the beginning of a run. This is a good way to get practice on 2 of the lair bosses because on chapters 2-5 you only get 2 mastery points at the beginning of a run and it becomes mandatory to defeat a lair boss and have a boss trophy mounted on your stage coach to enter the mountain. When it comes candles you want to invest them into your heroes to make them stronger as like I said they start out very weak. If you want to unlock new heroes you need to invest in the first level of that hero to unlock them. When it comes to the candle gacha I strongly suggest investing your candles into inn items first. Inn items play the biggest part of the game and have the biggest impact on your runs. From removing negative quirks to improving relationships to stress healing and finally healing/increasing max HP. You want to stop using Slime Mold ASAP and start using something better. Now on to the boss, you don't actually fight The Shackles of Denial. You'll instead fight 4 locks that spawn in random positions at the beginning of the fight. Each lock has 55HP only gets 1 action per round and have 200% movement resistance making shuffling them impossible. It is worth noting that the locks basically have next to no DOT resistances other than Padlock of Wasting who has an even 50% DOT resistance across the board and Latch of Regret having 60% bleed resistance. Other then that the locks have next to no DOT resistances that trinkets or a little luck can't handle. At the start of each round one of the locks will use a skill that will lock you out of using a certain type of skill. It will either be the ability to attack with either melee or ranged attacks or healing HP or Stress. The Shackles of Denial's strategy is to try and stall you out until your heroes have a meltdown while at the same time denying you any actions by either locking you out of your skills, blinding you or stunning you. All the locks have an attack called Paralyzing Fear which will inflict vulnerable and have a 75% chance to stun you. So yes you will see this attack every round and preventing the stun is priority one. So which heroes should you bring to this fight? Well let's start with which heroes you shouldn't bring. The worse heroes to bring to this fight are the pure melee heroes as they don't have any ranged attacks which will force them to skip their turn which will cause them to take stress damage, move out of position or use a skill that does nothing. There is one ranged fighter I don't recommend bringing and that's Vestal she's just bad. DON'T BRING THE FOLLOWING: Leper Man-at-Arms Duelist Hellion Jester Vestal You want to bring heroes who have access to both a range and melee attacks. So the best heroes to bring are the following and can also inflict DOT damage. Plague Doctor "Alchemist" Crusader Abomination Runaway Grave Robber Highwayman All of these heroes have access to both a range and a melee attack but easily the best out of the bunch is Plague Doctor "Alchemist". As with this path she gets a 50% stun resistance and a 33% debuff resistance. Now just put her in rank 3 with her knife equipped and have her skill Indiscriminate Science equipped mastered of course to be able to remove negative tokens with both of her Plague Grenades and she's ready to go. The number 1 item you need to unlock for this fight is Clarifying Poultice and you need 4 of them as it grants a 40% stun resistance buff for 1 region. Plague Doctor "Alchemist and Crusader have incredibly high stun resistance so adding even more is really good. Save 4 Restorative Herbs as you have a cultist fight before the boss. This item grants +10% traveling healing and +20% Healing Received from Skills. Don't forget to fix the stagecoach wheels to max as that grants a traveling healing bonus. The best food item to use is Apples & Cheese as it grants a +5% debuff resistance buff. #darkestdungeon #redhook #darkestdungeon2guide
