HELLO! This video was just an idea I had since I thought it was pretty interesting there were still pedestrian crossings on some busier sections of lines like Box Hill, so I decided to look into the cons of pedestrian crossings and how they can improve. But from this, I started also thinking about the situations where they make sense. Obviously anywhere where pedestrians or cars interact with trains are dangerous by default and are not ideal, but pedestrian crossings can also be simple solutions to improve access through communities and such. When I first started this video is was merely talking about pedestrian crossings on lines that are to be made level crossing free but slowly evolved more and more, which in turn means I didn't quite capture everything I wanted to talk about in this video. But in the future I'll try and plan them out a bit more. If you think I should look into more infrastructure/planning type topics or if I should stick to being a crossing gunzel let me know. Maybe I'll just keep combining the two interests like I have with this video and the last few. Thanks to @TazzieTransport for supplying some footage I also used a photo from Daniel Bowen's blog: https://danielbowen.com/2011/02/16/be... This is a cool post and shows really how often people are getting struck by trains at pedestrian crossings! This is a good line: "One can blame the people involved for ignoring all this, but no matter who’s to blame, one has to look at what else can be done to prevent it happening again." Probably would've been good to include this in the vid but if you're reading this then cool! All other footage and photos are from me or streetview, except that old photo of Beach St which I don't remember where I got it from.
